The morning and afternoon preschool classes each planted a pinon pine on the school grounds. The trees will help to serve as a windbreak along the south side of the school near the playground.
Conservation Poster Contest
Every fall, the local 6th grade students at Custer County Middle School participate in the Conservation Poster Contest. Homeschooled 6th grade students are also welcome to enter the contest. A new conservation theme is chosen each year for the students to learn about and then illustrate. Posters are judged on how well the theme is portrayed, neatness, and overall pleasing appearance. First place winning posters move on to the state level. It is a great opportunity for students to display their conservation awareness and their artistic abilities!

The Riparian River Trailer is a great conservation education tool because...
- It's a hands-on model that simulates a watershed and its river system. Kids get their hands and minds involved!
- It's an educational tool that shows the parts of a river system - headwaters, riparian zones, and floodplains.
- It makes it easy for students to understand the effects of soil and water erosion, and the benefits of soil and water conservation planning.
- It's a whole lot of fun!
