Our District:
Custer County Conservation District is located in Custer County and a small portion of Fremont County.  It encompasses the Wet Mountain Valley which is surrounded by the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the west and the Wet Mountains to the east.  The valley floor provides excellent grazing and hay producing land.  The east side of the district includes lower elevation ranches and the small towns of Wetmore and Greenwood.
The District is a mix of large acreage ranches, small acreage properties, subdivisions, and federal and state lands.  We provide services to ranching families that are descendants of the original valley settlers, as well as to landowners that are new to natural resource management.

"The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries
of the community to include soils, waters, plants,
and animals, or collectively: the land."
